Washington Street Cast Iron Water Main Replacement Project

Project Status: 🟢 Mobilization – Construction Activities Beginning

The North Washington Street Water & Sanitation District is moving into the mobilization stage of the Washington Street Cast Iron Water Main Replacement Project. This important infrastructure improvement will replace aging cast iron water mains and improve the long-term reliability of the District's water distribution system.

• Location: Washington Street from 59th Avenue to 66th Avenue
• Final Completion: February 16, 2027

Washington Street Water Main Replacement Project

Weekly Construction Update – August 25, 2026

Construction on the Washington Street Cast Iron Water Main Replacement Project continues to move forward, with crews now actively installing new water main along Washington Street.

Work Planned This Week

• Crews will continue installing new water main south along Washington Street from the 66th Avenue area toward 64th Avenue.
• Utility potholing and investigation will continue ahead of the water main installation to verify the location and depth of existing utilities.
• Crews will continue placing bedding, backfilling, and compacting completed sections as the new water main progresses south.
• Survey crews will continue establishing elevations and construction locations for upcoming water main installation.
• Crews will begin preparing for upcoming work at the 64th Avenue and 66th Avenue intersections, including development of traffic-control and construction phasing plans.
• Additional investigation of existing water-system connections, including hydrant branch lines, will occur as construction progresses.
• Temporary pavement restoration and roadway maintenance will continue as needed in completed work areas.

Traffic Impacts

Motorists should continue to expect lane closures, traffic shifts, reduced speeds, construction equipment, and workers along Washington Street within the active construction area.

The District and contractor are coordinating with Adams County on traffic-control plans for upcoming intersection work. Additional traffic impacts and possible detours will be communicated as those plans are finalized.

Businesses and properties along the corridor will remain accessible to the greatest extent possible during construction.

Project Progress

The project has transitioned from preliminary potholing and utility investigation into active water main installation. Crews are making progress south along Washington Street and will continue working toward 64th Avenue this week.

The District appreciates everyone's patience as this important infrastructure project moves forward. Replacing the aging cast iron water main will improve the reliability and long-term resiliency of the District's water distribution system.

 

South Side Phase 3 Water Line Project

Project Status: 🟢 Under Construction

The North Washington Street Water & Sanitation District continues construction on the South Side Phase 3 Water Main Replacement Project using District Operations staff.

By self-performing this project, the District is able to reduce construction costs, maximize the value of customer rate dollars, maintain high construction standards, and complete critical infrastructure improvements using its experienced in-house workforce.

South Side Phase 3 is replacing aging cast iron water mains with new ductile iron water mains throughout the South Industrial area. These improvements will strengthen the District's water distribution system, improve reliability, and help provide dependable water service for decades to come.

🚧 Current Work – Logan Court to Logan Street

District Operations crews continue making progress on the Logan Court to Logan Street Water Main Loop.

Crews are currently advancing through the alleyway and approaching Logan Court, installing new 8-inch ductile iron water main as they progress.

Once completed, the new water main will create a loop between Logan Court and Logan Street, providing an additional connection within the District's distribution system. This loop will improve water circulation, increase system redundancy, strengthen fire protection capabilities, and improve overall reliability throughout the South Industrial area.

This Week's Planned Work

• Continue installing 8-inch ductile iron water main through the alleyway toward Logan Court.
• Continue bedding, backfilling, and compacting completed sections of the new water main.
• Prepare for the upcoming connection as crews approach Logan Court.
• Continue restoration of disturbed areas as construction progresses.
