Washington Street Cast Iron Water Main Replacement Project

Project Status: 🟢 Active Construction – Water Main Installation and Testing Underway

The North Washington Street Water & Sanitation District is continuing active construction on the Washington Street Cast Iron Water Main Replacement Project. This important infrastructure improvement will replace aging cast iron water mains and improve the long-term reliability of the District’s water distribution system.

• Location: Washington Street from 59th Avenue to 66th Avenue

Washington Street Water Main Replacement Project

Weekly Construction Update – October 6, 2026

Work continues on the Washington Street Cast Iron Replacement Project as crews replace aging water infrastructure and connect the new water line to the District’s existing system. Current activities include service connections, fire hydrant work, and preparation for roadway restoration.

Current Work and Upcoming Schedule

Crews are working near 66th Avenue, heading west, and completing a water service connection near 64th Avenue. Upcoming work includes the north-side water line tie-in and fire hydrant connection, followed by work at the 64th Avenue intersection.

The project team is targeting disinfection of the new water line between 64th and 62nd avenues by the end of this week. This process includes chlorination and a holding period over the weekend as part of preparing the line for service.

Water Service Interruptions

Connecting  businesses to the new water line may require temporary water shutoffs. Some recent connections have taken longer than expected, extending outages beyond the anticipated restoration times.

We understand that these delays disrupt daily routines and appreciate the patience of affected customers. The project team is reviewing connection procedures and installation quality to reduce delays and improve communication when water service restoration takes longer than planned.

Roadway and Concrete Restoration

Asphalt paving is tentatively anticipated in approximately two weeks, after the remaining utility connections and old water line abandonment are completed. This timing depends on construction progress and weather conditions.

Concrete work near 62nd Avenue is also approaching. The project team is coordinating saw-cut locations and replacement limits with Adams County to address damaged pavement and complete the required restoration. An updated roadway patch detail has been submitted to the County for final approval.

What Customers Can Expect

As work progresses, customers near the construction area can expect continued excavation, temporary pavement conditions, construction equipment, and periodic water service interruptions associated with connections. Please use caution around active work areas and follow posted traffic controls.

Schedules may shift as crews address field conditions, complete utility coordination, and respond to weather. The District appreciates your continued patience as we replace aging infrastructure and complete restoration along Washington Street.
